December 2007
As a bit of a surprise the club newsletter The "Rumble Sheet" is to receive an award from MAFCA!   An email was received from MAFCA's  Stephanie Grundmann, to announce that the "Award of Merit" is to be presented to our club and editor/photographer  Michele Browning at the December Annual Meeting in Ontario, California!   Editor Michele Browning is being given the opportunity to travel to receive this first award on behalf of the club, due to the huge hearts of our great members as they have stepped forward to aid in her travels.  Her thanks are given to all for the continued support, as none would be possible without such great members!  What a great award for the club to receive as only being a club less than a year old!

Senate Bill SB09-108

The license fees on EACH of your vehicles (Modern and Antique) are about to increase by $32 next year and $42 the following year... this is IN ADDITION to the fees you pay now.  If you have 5 licensed cars and/or trucks INCLUDING your MODEL A this could mean up to $160 or more.  Senate Bill SB09-108 has passed from committees to the floor of the Senate for debate.  The money raised by the surcharge is supposed to repair bridges and do some highway repairs ... but also sets up a commission to study even more increased fees by charging you a mileage fee on your vehicle *.  This bill would raise about $2.5 BILLION for the state from you, and DOES NOT consider the Federal Stimulus Package money earmarked for Colorado.

This bill is VERY BAD on those of us who have Horseless Carriage Licensed Model A's since it would QUADRUPLE the license fee for EACH Model A you own.

The latest is that the bill has passed the Senate and will now go to the House of Representatives for debate.  The Governor and the Bills sponsor Sen. Dan Gibbs of Silverthorne has said "NO EXCEPTIONS all registered vehicles must pay the additional fees".  In my talks with Harold Nabor of the Colo. Springs Model A club, he said we now must put even more effort into Exempting the Horseless Carriage Title 42-3-219 license exemption.  We must continue by targeting the House of Representatives and pepper them with why our Model A's should be exempted!

By visiting the Rocky Mountain Model A Club website, you can find out how to respond and the latest information on this bill, containing text that you can send to your State Representative and the Governor.

Thanks for your help!

P.S......THE TIMING MAY BE SHORT ON THE BILL, AS IT HAS ALREADY PASSED THE SENATE!
